Extra Curricular Activities

SPORTS

Following the closure of schools, the city leagues for sports were limited. In the 22/23 school year SCESD began its own sports league as well as partnering with the city Recreation Center to offer 5th and 6th graders the chance to play volleyball, basketball , soccer and flag football. There may be more changes in the 23/24 school year. Thank you to our many volunteer coaches through the years. Our district now offers a stipend for coaches so if coaching is your calling, watch for application information at the beginning of each season. Many of our students also participate in Hartnell Little League baseball.

This year the district has contracted with Elevo and Edmo to provide enrichment, movement and sports activities during Extended Learning Programs after school and in Summer/Intersession programs. The kids will also enjoy Elevo activities while the teachers squeeze in some planning time in the 23/24 school year.

MUSIC

We offer in person music classes each trimester to different grade spans of students. Our district music teachers target vocal music in K/1/2, 3rd and 4th graders learn recorders, and 5th and 6th explore reading and writing music using computer keyboard programs. In between those visits, teachers are encouraged to practice favorite songs with their classes and participate in virtual sing-alongs on a regular basis. We hope some of our students will also be able to have additional music enrichment in the afternoons.

ART

This year each student in grades K-3 will participate in visual arts lessons from a visiting artist through The Arts Council of Monterey County. These lessons may be in person or virtual.

DANCE

This year each student in grades 4-6 will get dance lessons from a visiting artist through The Arts Council of Monterey County. These lessons may be in person or virtual.
